
Howard Enstedt, 2025
He graduated from LA University High School where he spent most of his time there thinking about and playing volleyball. At University, volleyball was not yet an interscholastic sport. Enstedt played football, basketball and ran track there. His long teaching career eventually led him to rival Palisades High School, where he coached for more than 30 years and won 10 LA City volleyball championships, sent numerous players to top colleges, USA national and Olympic volleyball teams and over 60 received college scholarships. Enstedt guided the Dolphins to titles in 1974, ’76, ’77, ’78, ’82, ’86, ’88, ’91 and ’93 before retiring in 1994. He also coached gymnastics, ran the Bee football squad and the great volleyball squad. Among his Pali star players were Olympians and our HOFers Chris Marlowe, Steve Salmons, Dave Saunders, and Ricci Luyties, plus SCIVBHOFer Don Shaw, along Randy Stevenson and Kent Steffes. SCIVBHOFer Fred Sturm was the USA Olympic coach and played for Enstedt too. Other notable players were HOF inductee Jerritt Elliott, Randy Stoklos, Bob Clem, Dane Selznick and Jay Hanseth. Enstedt was inducted in 2015 into the Los Angeles City Athletics Hall of Fame. He passed away in 2024
