John Brame, 2025
John was born and raised in Los Angeles and was a standout football player at Beverly Hills High School. He then competed at USC, while starting to play national volleyball. He got his BS and master’s degrees from USC in 1953. By then he was representing the USA world-wide for the Hollywood YMCA and won Gold Medals at the 1955 Pan American games and 1956 World Championships. He loved showing his sport to new people across the world. He was a seven-time USVBA All-American, four-time National Champion (1953, ‘56, ‘57, ‘58) and twice runner-up. He played with other SCIVBHOFers Gene Selznick, Rolf Engen, and Bill Olson. Later he was a high school teacher, who coached football and tennis, and was a weekend warrior in the Navy Reserves. He was called into active duty in 1968 and finished with the rank of Commander. He was most proud of his family, which now includes numerous grand and great grandchildren. Brame, USN RET, passed away April 25, 2015, in Jacksonville, Florida.
