Heather Schoeny Cox, 2026

She was an All-CIF player at Capistrano Valley HS in Mission Viejo and the 6-0 lefty opposite helped University of the Pacific (UOP) to four straight long runs in the NCAA Tournament. This included finishing runner-up in 1990 as the team captain and being a multi-time All-Big West player. She was a member of the USA National Team from 1987-1995 and competed at the 1990 Olympic Sports Festival. Her 1990 VB team was inducted into the UOP Athletics HOF in 2001. After retiring, Cox went into sports broadcasting and worked for ESPN from 1994 to 2016, calling numerous NCAA women’s and men’s championship matches, plus the NBA. She signed with NBC Sports and has worked numerous major events in football and basketball, plus eight combined summer and winter Olympic Games. Her major summer Olympic focus was for indoor and beach volleyball, including 2024 Paris. She won the 2004 USA Volleyball E. Douglas Boyden Media Recognition award. She also worked on the NBC AVP TV coverage as a sideline reporter. She has a daughter playing volleyball at UOP where her husband Bill was a UOP football player, and a son heading to college next fall.
