Mary Perry, 2023

She was born in Burbank, started volleyball at Birmingham HS, excelled at Pierce College, and then transferred to Cal State Northridge where she led her team to AIAW 3rd place finishes in 1973 and 1974, while gaining All-American honors. Before CSUN, she was selected to compete at the 1963 Pan-American Games for the USA team that won the silver medal. She also played for the USA Olympic Teams in 1964 in Tokyo and 1968 in Mexico City, plus won a gold medal at the 1967 Pan-American Games. She was responsible for forming the Renegades Club Team around her USA National Team playing. She coached at Punahou HS in Hawaii, Cal State Hayward, and So. Oregon State College. She was also a great beach player, being named the 1968 USVBA Tour Most Valuable Player. She was inducted into the CSUN HOF in 1984, and selected for the USVBA Hall of Fame, plus won the ‘Flo Hyman All-Time Great Player’ Award in 2009. She was selected for the LA City Sports HOF in 2011 and Pierce College in 2012. She passed away in 2012 from a rare neurodegenerative disease.
