Walt Ker, 2024
Walt started playing in the 1970s at LA Valley College, then three years of club VB while attending Cal State Northridge, where he start-ed the men’s college pro-gram after graduating (he won 137 men’s matches as head coach from 1979-1985). He also started the boys’ high school program at Granada Hills. He is most noted for coaching the CSUN women to 3 National Division II titles, plus 5 run-ner-up finishes in 15 years as head coach. He finished his women’s coaching career with 401 victories into the early 1990s before retiring (winning 74% of his women’s matches). He was the 1984 AVCA Coach of the Year. Heleft to help coach his three sons (winning three club titles), who all competed for UCLA (Tony, Kevin and Jamey). In his first year as SCIVBHOFer Al Scates’ men’s assistant, he helped UCLA to Scates’ 19th and last NCAA title in 2006 (Tony was the starting libero). Today, he owns and runs the Legacy Volleyball Club program in Santa Clarita with his sons helping coach. He was most recently the head coach in 2022 when Legacy won the AAU girls’ 17 division. He has been in-volved with volleyball for over 50 years at the highest levels of coaching.
